Just make sure it doesn't ruin the lures appearance as said above. Don't put a huge piece of bait on a small lure. When i go deep sea and I am using lures I put a strip of squid on the hook. It flutters making it look more appealing, the smell make the fish more willing to bite it , and once they bait it they will hold on longer giving you extra time to set the hook. Obviously it doesnt work with some baits but it works for most. People often hook a small minnow through the nose and put it on their ordinary spinners, like a panther martin spinner. One thing i always did was tipped a curly tailed grub with a piece of earthworm. Caught a lot of 'gills like that. I advise you not using bait with lures. Generally it's just messy. If you just want to catch a lot of fish here are some good lures for that ... And walleye fishermen add a piece of worm or leech to their lures for the added action and scent.
