How to get rid of rust on fishing hooks?

Posted on Jan 26, 2010 under Fishing Hooks | 9 Comments

I have an old lure with a trebble hook and i just cant get rid of the rust please help me.

Replace the hooks! They are weakened now. If you are Fishing in salt, use stainless hooks and rinse them in fresh water and air dry before storage.

You would probably be better off just going and buying some new ones. They’re quiet easy to replace. But I have used a "wetrock" before on sharping my 4/0 Bass hooks and my trebble hooks. It knocks some of the rust off, but not all of it.

I use a knife sharpening stone. I just rub off the rust marks and sharpen my hooks at the same time. Then I wash the hook with water.

Rusted is Busted! Do as others have said and replace them if you are going to use that lure.
