I know that brands like rapala use reg aluminum foil (or perhaps a more refined version to the kitches stuff… But I figure an amature can slip with regular right?)
But for that same tecnique I can’t find gold foil they used on their gold flo red color lure.Where the hell am I to find gold color aluminum foil??? I want to make any homemade bait look nice and professional. Any ideas??
Thanks guys!
Craft/art stores, or hobby stores, should have what you are looking for, and I found colored aluminum foil for sale on various sites, when I done an online search…after seeing this question.
There are paints that reflect like foil would.
LOOKING FOR 3IN. LONG SHANK Fishing HOOKS WIYH A 10MM. LOOP
You can try the Mustad hook model 3407DT in size #8/0 (not size number 8). Don’t assume that every size #8/0 hook is the same length. The hook shank length is different by model size.
Here is a link with a hook size chart for comparison.

I want to know what the proper knot is to use when tying a midge or nymph as a dropper fly under a dry fly. I’m talking about tying the seconded piece of tippet used to connect the dropper fly to the dry fly to the hook on the dry fly. I use 6 or 7x Floucarbon tippet so it can’t cut into itself. Right now I use a clinch knot, but it think it’s only a 90% knot and I’m looking for a 100% knot if there even is one that is supposed to be used here, if not I think I’ll use a Davy’s Knot.
I hope I wrote that so you can understand it, if you can’t then let me know so I can try something different.
I don’t think there is a 100% knot. Do you wet your kont? Wetting you knot will improve it by 5% to 10%. Are you tying it to the bend or the eye.
To set the hook in fly Fishing, you need to be patient in order to avoid ripping the hook away before it’s actually in the trout’s mouth. Properly set the hook when fly fishing with tips from a competitive fly fisherman in this free video on trout fishing techniques.

Attaching fly line to backing using the Albright Knot.
Years ago we would have to tie our oun loops to the back end of the fly line to attach our running line. The nail knot, tied with a tube is easier but when we expect to be into our backing with every hook up I want a knot that will slide thru the rods guide smoothly. The nail knot does this fine, but when you have a fast bone fish, or permit, salmon, or steelhead, you want a knot that won’t strip the outer coating of the fly line. Now days it seems all the fly line makers are putting a loop on the back end of the lines. Here we show you how to tie the Albright Knot.
